4th NPOCE webinar on
Influences of western Pacific Ocean on regional/global climate
09:00-10:35AM, September 30, 2022, GMT+8.
3 Presentations: 25min Talk + 5min Q&A/each
Convener: Fan Wang (Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences)
Yuanlong Li (Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences)
Ocean Salinity Changes Induced by Subsurface Warming
Dr. Yuanlong Li is a research scientist at Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS). He utilizes observations and numerical models to understand ocean thermodynamics and air-sea interaction in a changing climate. His research interests currently include decadal variability of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, long-term ocean subsurface temperature and salinity changes, sea level change, and their relationship with the ongoing and future climate change.
Jin-Yi Yu (University of California, Irvine)
An overlooked source of decadal variability in Western Pacific typhoon and ENSO activities: The 11-year solar cycle
Dr. Jin-Yi Yu is Professor of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine, USA. His research work covers a wide range of issues, from global-scale climate changes in the coupled atmosphere-ocean system, baroclinic wave and jet stream dynamics in the atmosphere, to regional-scale variations in the Asian and North American monsoons. In recent years, his research has focused on El Niño complexity and inter-basin interactions among the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.
Yongqiang Yu (Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences)
Numerical simulation of subtropical gyre in the North Pacific with a high resolution coupled GCM
Dr. Yongqiang Yu is a research scientist at Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS). He is leading a modeling group to develop global oceanic general circulation model named as LICOM and coupled ocean-atmosphere models named as FGOALS. His research interests currently include numerical model development, air-sea interaction, climate change.
